Good Friends

When I started this path to becoming an author, I had no idea the caliber of friends I would be making. The authors in the indie community are such a beautiful group. And in this group, I have found some of the best friends I've never met.

This past week has been a trial and a couple friends stepped up to the challenge of holding me up, not an easy task! At one point this week I found myself feeling like my integrity was being questioned because one person cast a shadow amongst the indie community. Their spell, however, did not work. Instead, friendships came out stronger than ever and more determined to conquer mountains.

The second trial was my confidence taking a sharp nose-dive into a canyon I didn't think it possible to make it out of. Yet, a diamond of a friend saw the flames and used her super-human powers to douse them. She picked up the phone and called me. Her first words, "We need to talk and figure out where your confidence has gone." We talked for a good amount of time and by the end she had me in tears, good tears. I knew that all authors went through times of low self-confidence, and I thought I had dealt with it during my last book. It never got to the point where I started seriously thinking about not publishing at all. It's been really hard with this third book and to have a friend to eat cookies and tacos with over the phone was a blessing I didn't know I needed.

Someday I will meet these friends who have kept me together when I felt like the pieces of my world were falling down around me. Friendship is so important. I thought I had good friends before I started writing books, but I have found the best friends I have ever had within the author world. They understand me in a way other friends never took the time to try and do.

I am thankful for every friendship I have ever had, but I am especially thankful for these author friends and all they do to keep a smile on my face. I hope that I do the same for them.

Being an author is hard, find your people, keep them close, make sure you feed them as much as they feed you and grow together!
